Congratulations to 2017 LGA Instructor of the Year!

Senior Certified Golf Instructor – Palm Beach, Florida

Director of Instruction - LGA Palm Beach Gardens (at PGA National) Originally from Central Florida, Matt was introduced to the game of golf at the age of ten by his father. Matt had a successful junior golf career which included three top five finishes in the Florida State High School Golf Championship. Matt received a full scholarship to attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. While at Eckerd, Matt became the Captain of his college golf team, and then led the "Tritons" to their first ever tournament victory. After graduating, Matt began teaching math in a local middle school. He enjoyed teaching tremendously, but the dream to play professional golf was one he wished to pursue full time. Matt began taking lessons at a Leadbetter Golf Academy with a certified golf instructor. He was so impressed with the teaching methods he was learning, he decided to forego his pursuit of playing golf professionally and joined the Leadbetter team in 2003. Since becoming an LGA Certified Golf Instructor Matt has had the opportunity to travel to many of the Leadbetter academies. Matt has spent two summers in Vail, Colorado, and has also taught in Naples, Florida; Nemacolin, Pennsylvania, and in Half Moon Bay, Jamaica. This past summer, Matt served as the Director of the Academy in Whistler, British Columbia.

Get to know Congratulations to 2017 LGA Instructor of the Year – Matt Denzer!

  • When was the first time you picked up a club? The first time I picked up a golf club was when I was ten years old. I was on a family vacation and had the choice of a golf or tennis lesson. Taking the golf lesson turned out to be the best decision ever.
  • Who is your golf idol? I don't know if I have a golf idol. I have a lot of swings I enjoy and I love seeing how the golf swing has changed over the years. There are just to many great golfers to name just one for me.
  • Who would you most like to give a lesson? The person that I'd most like to give a lesson to is anyone with a strong desire to learn and improve. When a student has a passion to get better it makes teaching that much more fun and exciting.
  • What is your favorite training aid or drill? My favorite drill is the "L" to "L" drill. I feel that a lot of students don't appreciate how much energy that they can create by hinging and un-hinging the wrists and this drill helps to demonstrate the proper hinge.
  • What is one rule change you would make to golf? I wouldn't limit the use of anchored putters. Anything that makes the game more fun and enjoyable I think should remain as part of the game.
