Coaching Philosophy

Create good fundamentals and allow the body to control the swing.  Under pressure, I want the player to ask “What can I do?” Work hard, play hard and the results will allow you “to do, whatever you want!”

Get to know Andrew Oliphant

  • When was the first time you picked up a club? Like many junior players, I first started playing golf with my Grandfather when I was 11-years old. I recall the wind and rain stopping play, but I guess it didn’t deter me from taking up the game.
  • Who is your golf idol? I was lucky to spend a day at The Open championship in 1984 when Seve beat Tom Watson. After that he became my golf idol, I tried to copy shots he played and the aggressive playing style.
  • Who would you most like to give a lesson? Any golfer who is willing to improve their game and is coachable is where we as instructors get the most pleasure. It would be cool to spend time with Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus or Gary Player. I think I would be getting the lesson!
  • What is your favorite training aid or drill? There are a couple of new training aids on the market. The “Perfect Putter” is great for players to learn speed and break on the greens. I also like the “Orange Peel” for players to learn balance and different angles of attack.
  • What is one rule change you would make to golf? Thankfully it doesn’t happen too often, but giving player’s relief when your ball finishes in a divot made by another player.
